Today: Packing checklist – what to pack when you travel?

Whether it is your first holiday or whether you are a seasoned globetrotter, packing your luggage can be stressful. Although always avoidable, packing mishaps are easily made and they can range from inconvenient occurrences (e.g. traveling to the Maldives without your beachwear) to disastrous events (arriving at the airport without your passport or discovering you left the country without your wallet).

So, it’s always helpful to have a list with travel essentials you may want to pack for your vacation. To help you pack well every time, I have created packing the ‘ultimate’ packing checklists (one for men and one for women), which can serve as a reference as to what to pack, whether you are planning an international holiday, a weekend getaway, or even a long-term, around-the-world adventure.

If you are traveling to a destination abroad, the most important thing to keep in mind is your passport, visas, and vaccinations. Make sure that your passport is up to date, has as least six months of validity, and has enough blank pages for any stamps. Also, give yourself plenty of time to apply for any visas that you might need and arrange for a visit to a travel clinic if any special medications or vaccines are needed. Also, always travel with a copy of your passport, credit card, and bank contacts, as well as a list of medications and your emergency contacts.

Do you think I forgot an item in my packing checklists? Or do you have any other packing tips to share? Leave a comment.

  1. My English not so good sorry. Missing sun lotion and allergies pills when you get attacked by those insects , no matter insect repellent you use.
As well, you should add what to bring with me in the plane , in case my luggage do not follow which happens quite often! Such as a complete change and medication never in the luggage,
Besides, love your blog I have just discovered.

  2. On an unrelated subject (because I didn’t know where else in your blog to ask) – what tips can you share for having a 5 star experience at a 3 star hotel? I hope that I don’t sound disrespectful or condescending it’s just that I like to feel pampered when I travel.
    Thank you

We are going to Greece and Munich.

  5. I always travel with a USB enabled Power Bar and local adapter. Charging everything is a lot easier particularly when the charge points are in the wrong place or non existent.

  6. Socks
Back up pair of prescription glasses, readers and sunglasses.
Copies of health insurance card and passport.
    Photo of checked bag
Extra daily medication in the event of delay.
    Emergen-C or other immunity booster
